Communities Prepared (a Groundwork South programme) and Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) have published a new guide to help rural communities become more resilient in the face of emergencies.
‘A Guide to Rural Community Resilience’ provides practical advice for rural communities to prepare for times of crisis, ensuring that groups and communities can respond to local risks and needs effectively. This guide offers advice on the risks, responsibilities, and responses involved in emergency planning, offering advice on personal resilience, case studies, and resources for further information and support.
The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the need for careful and considered emergency planning in both rural and urban communities across the country, ensuring that local residents can access support during difficult situations. Across the country, volunteer networks, local charities, and building management committees have had to respond to a pandemic that has impacted upon residents, business, and charities alike. These organisations have been mobilising support systems to adapt to a constantly changing situation that threatened the health, wellbeing, and safety of local residents.
