Following the government’s recent announcement that certain premises may open from 4 July 2020, guidance has been published for those managing community centres, village halls and other community facilities on safely re-opening multi-purpose buildings.
COVID-19: Guidance for the Safe Use of Multi-Purpose Community Facilities offers guidance to management committees on how to re-open their premises safely and in line with the Government’s covid-secure guidelines. The document offers guidance on the core principles for safely reopening community facilities, the permitted activities in multi-use community facilities, and how these measures will be enforced in line with coronavirus restrictions and legislation.
Due to their communal nature, community buildings have been identified as places that are vulnerable to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Previously, community centres have been closed except where they are used to provide permitted activities set out in the premises closure guidance. Many community facilities are also workplaces and, therefore, those responsible for the premises should be aware of their responsibilities as employers.
